paper chandelier

tis the season for decorations. as we "fall" into the celebration season, people are coming up with some wonderful handmade decorations. one i've been seeing everywhere is the paper chandelier. not sure if it's a polish tradition but the first time i saw this was from wren handmade's blog last january stating she got an original from a polish festival. if anyone cares to enlighten me on this paper fantasy, please do.

sponsor spotlight :: Le Canôt Rouge

Please say hello to Laura Morrish of Le Canôt Rouge, a Canadian artist living in Florida.  Having spent summers at the family cottage near Algonquin Park in Ontario, she’s forever inspired by the bracing lake water, the crisp breeze, the auburn pine needle ground cover, the lush woods, and all the animals it houses.  With that inspiration, she’s launched Le Canôt Rouge and, very much following her heart, called her first collection of prints and note cards ‘We Took to the Woods’.  These prints are just so delicate and cozy, perfect to frame and put up in a babies room or anywhere for that matter!

Le Canôt Rouge note cards and prints are printed on Mohawk Genesis 'Forest Stewardship Certified' premium papers, made from 100% post-consumer waste.  The paper is also acid-free, lignin-free, process chlorine-free,  and manufactured with 'Green-e Certified' windpower.  And, because it is archival, these illustrations will last and last. and the best part is that 10% of the purchase price of Le Canôt Rouge artwork is donated to animal welfare causes, helping all the needy woof-purr-oink-whinnie-moo-baa-chirp-glub-eek-bleet-grunt-hiss-and-squeaks they can.

book review :: pattern sourcebook

I'm super excited about this new book coming out from Laurence King called The Pattern Sourcebook : A Century of Surface Design by Drusilla Cole. My eyes were glued wide open from the minute I opened this book. It is a fantastic conglomeration of pattern designs from the past to the present used on all types of surfaces from textiles to ceramics. I especially love how the book is laid out, there is a great flow in the placement of each piece making it interesting to see that say a style made in the 40's looks very close to a style made in 2007, I got to the point where I was covering up the dates and guessing which time period it was done in, lets just say i was happily surprised quite a few times. There are about 350 patterns made within the last 100 years that will just blow your mind. This is truly a recipe book for those who want to know where pattern came from and how it has evolved through the ages. I love love love it!

pattern sourcebook by you.

LK has graciously given me some sample pages to share with you. enjoy!
