Yeahy, it's finally here..the moment we have all been so patiently waiting for! the Handmade Nation Documentary premier will be held this thursday in Milwaukee here is all the info below...(wish i could get on a plane today to go see it, guess i'll have to wait a wee bit longer to see it.)

"Handmade Nation" documents the new wave of craft that is capturing the attention of the nation. It's the feature film debut of Faythe Levine, co-owner of Paper Boat Boutique & Gallery in Bay View and organizer of the yearly indie craft fair Art vs. Craft. Faythe Levine traveled to 15 cities and covered more than 19,000 miles to interview subjects of the film. A book by the same title, written with Cortney Heimerl, was published in October by Princeton Architectural Press.

old school :: uppercase gallery

this fall, uppercase gallery will celebrate the lovely aesthetics of 20th century education with an exhibition and companion book. the inspiration is drawn by some things you may remember as a child in elementary school like these....




but thats not all, they will also be exploring the technology old school style with typewriters, mimeographs and others that we are totally oblivious to these days. the exhibition will be documented in a commemorative book due out in september. for more info, click here.

Typecon 2008 :: Welcome to Buffalo

I am thrilled to announce this major event that will take place in my home town of Buffalo, New York.
TypeCon has previously been held in Boston, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Minneapolis. Buffalo was chosen as this year's site in part for its wealth of cultural attractions and a long history of contributions to type, art,and printing. "Punkt" is the German word for point. It also conjures up a certain irreverence, along with a sense of history and tradition. Visitors will be attending Buffalo from around the country as well as Europe & South America.
 
 Local events and partnerships include:
 
 - Austrian design superstar Stefan Sagmeister will speak at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum commemorated with a special limited edition poster by Buffalo design studio, Hero Design
 - Dutch design group NLXL will present at UB's Center for the Arts
 - German design legend Erik Spiekermann will speak at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery Gusto free Friday event
 - Type-themed Pecha Kucha at Hallwalls
 - TypeCon identity designed by Buffalo-based designer David A. Moore
 - Typographic tour of Forest Lawn Cemetery
 - A special rare book exhibit at the Buffalo and Erie Co. Central Library
 - Special Buffalo City Hall tour focused on the Art Deco Typography of City Hall
 - Student newspaper design project with Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School with mentorship from Business First and visiting designers
 - Special tour of the Cary Collection at RIT
 - Type and Design Education Forum for local and international educators
 - Mohawk Place will feature an evening showcasing local label P22 records with Odiorne + others
 - Gala party at the Hyatt with Buffalo DJ legends Déjà Blü
 - Closing reception for attendees at The Roycroft Campus
 - Workshops being held at: the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School as well as Quality Bindery, Paradise Press, French Press, and UB
 - Events co-organized with SOTA, the Western New York Book Arts Collaborative, and P22 type foundry
 - Plus three days of talks, multimedia presentations, exhibitions, and panel discussions on type and lettering arts and how they relate to communication, design, literacy, and visual culture.
 
 A number of TypeCon events are free and open to the general public, with all events included for conference attendees. Registration is open and all are welcome to attend.
